In the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship, it’s easy to find yourself caught up in a constant game of comparison. Social media feeds are flooded with success stories, flashy achievements, and seemingly effortless growth of others in your industry. The temptation to measure your own progress against these seemingly perfect benchmarks can be overwhelming. But here’s the truth: comparing yourself to others in entrepreneurship is a recipe for self-doubt, frustration, and missed opportunities.
I have a message to share with you that has been on my heart. If you’ve found yourself under the crushing grip of comparison, then I pray this message encourages you to break free from this cycle, and embracing your unique journey and God leads and guides you!
Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20!
When we do this, it puts unnecessary stress on us and causes us not to show up the way we should. We often miss the very things that we are supposed learn in the process when we are busy looking out at someone else’s success. This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t glean wisdom from others, but we must always be careful not to compare. God loves entrepreneurship! And it’s His desire that you embrace your lane and soar unapologetically in the areas that He has graced you for without comparison!
The Art of Contentment
As I’m in building mode with a new company that I partnered with, I reflected on the fact that I’ve been in this space for well over 20 years! One of the major reasons why I know by the grace of God that I have been able to see major success in this space of entrepreneurship is because I learned to be content.
Years ago in 2009, I decided to join a company alongside other women of God. I was super excited, even with a baby on my hip, ready to breakthrough to success with those women! Shortly after, everyone began to surpass me in the business. They started getting more business partners than me, more customers than me, more volume and sales than me, and their checks surely were higher than mine.
But I didn’t give in to comparison! The Holy Spirit gave me these instructions:
Keep your heart right
Stay grateful
Keep working
Don’t look to the left or to the right
Stay engaged
Learn the process
Understand the industry
Learn how this really works
Learn how to build
Learn how to still show up!
I learned the art of contentment through the Lord’s leading. When the sales were only at 100, I thanked God anyway! I continued to show up, learn, and sacrifice my time. Then I noticed something begin to break in my business 5 months later; things began to shift and change for me! My organization began to grow and even leaders were coming to my team as we were building. We became Top leaders with one of the highest paid organizations in the state of North Carolina 7 months later! All of those individuals who I started out with, I ended up surpassing them in rank! Of course, remaining humble was vital and I didn’t throw my success in anyone’s face. It was during that process that the Lord emphasized the art of contentment and staying grateful in all seasons!
“I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therein to be content.” – Phillipians 4:11
STOP Comparing yourself to others!
As you see people are advancing. getting promoted, and going to different levels, you may be tempted to compare yourself and ask:
What am I doing wrong?
What is wrong with me?
Remember that comparison stifles and stops growth when you are not careful. If you understand the significance and importance of walking through the process wherever you may be, then some incredible things will happen!
Behind Closed Doors
Many times we miss it because we are simply too busy comparing and looking at what other people are doing. When we begin to shift our focus on others and how they are advancing, we don’t consider the level of sacrifice they put in or the influence they were carrying before they got to where they are. We don’t know the years that they’ve had to build or grow in their craft! Even as believers, let’s be mindful of those types of things. Understand there is always another side to success. Many people often look at my personal life through the lenses of social media. From the outside looking in, it all looks good and is beautiful. If you follow me on social media, then you may know about the testimony of us paying off our $2.5 million dollar home debt free—but there was some hell to defeat. There were a lot of attacks and warfare. My husband and I wear a lot of hats and take care of a lot of people behind the scenes. There’s a lot of weight and responsibility that comes with it.
Remember this: With great success comes great responsibility. According to the Word, to whom much is given, much is required (Luke 12:48).
On Instagram and Facebook we see these people leading glamorous lives, but behind the smiles some people are hurting. You can’t compare your now season to someone else’s season because you don’t know the things they went through to get where they are. Sometimes as you look at people for inspiration, the spirit of envy and jealousy can quickly slip in. You can’t allow those things to slip in because when they do you become stagnant. Most people can’t go forward because they are focusing on someones else’s journey far too much.
Don’t let this be you!
When you become focused on what you have going on, you won’t have time to be envious or jealous of someone else. When you don’t have a vision, you don’t have direction. Take some time to ask yourself:
What is your vision for your life?
Where are you going?
Remember that whatever you focus on the most grows and becomes stronger, even in entrepreneurship. Take a look at your bottom line and focus strictly on that. Think about the things that God has for you to do. What has God trusted you with? Be grateful with where you are so that you can receive more!
“…you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.” – Matthew 25:23
Just Be You!
One of the main reasons that contribute to my success by the grace of God is the fact that I’ve never been one to look at what others are doing so that I can copy and imitate them. Learn YOUR space! Social media often has us comparing ourselves to the point where we get stagnated. Comparison chokes out the blessings. I wanted to encourage you to be you and be authentic! Go through your own process and journey. This doesn’t mean that we don’t look at the lives of other people to glean and learn from them, but remember it is the principles that we should be observing. As you are building and growing, don’t compare yourself. As you start being intentional about your journey, process, and the wisdom that you have, the skills that you have learned, and the talents that you bring to the table no one can take that from you!
Stay in your lane and do what God is calling you to do. Answer the call that He has given to you. What has He placed in your hands? Be responsible with those things. Operate from a place of gratitude. You will start to grow. Be promoted, but by the right Kingdom.
Let God promote you!
Let the Kingdom of Heaven announce you!
Break Every Chain!
Sometimes things happen that are simply outside of our span of control, including generational things that we deal with. Yes, Generational curses are real and you have to fight! If you are going to break some serious things in the realm of the spirit as it pertains to wealth, blessings, and prosperity, then you have to fight. Make no mistakes about it, you will have to break some strongholds and generational curses. There may be some things that your ancestors did that may be attached to you that may come to slow you down. Chains, yoke and bondages need to be broken! This is another thing that I believe has helped me and our family in some areas. If you are going to be build in entrepreneurship, you are going to have to break some stuff by way of the Word of God, releasing the fire of God, fasting, and praying. The Bible even says that there are some things that simply don’t come out unless by prayer and fasting. So you will have to break some things by handling business in the realm of the spirit. Demonic cycles and issues that keep coming around have to break!
Even before I began earning $55,000 a month in my home-based business back in 2009, I went on a fast for breakthrough. I was constantly turning down plates even during the times when I got up to cook breakfast for my family and the Holy Spirit would instruct me not to eat. People often wonder about the blessings over my life but don’t know much about my encounters 20 years ago when God was speaking to me about fasting. In 2009, as I decided to step out and fast, things broke in business. About 5 months after that, we hit the top position in that company! Fasting still works and it is biblical! God will honor your sacrifice and cause things to bloom in your business. Don’t be afraid to handle things in the spirit!
A Kingdom Takeover!
Ask God to show you areas in your life that needs to be highlighted and He will show you! Here’s some wisdom I’d like to leave you with from today’s message:
Don’t compare your life to others!
Be grateful for what God has entrusted you with!
Be faithful for your blessings!
Be grateful for what you have!
The Bible talks about David and how he inquired of the Lord saying what shall I do (1 Samuel 20:8). The Lord urged him to pursue, overtake, and recover all! As believers, we have to know when to fast, pray, fight, and when to simply sit back. We are living a time right now where God is wanting us to occupy and overtake territory—we are in the midst of a Kingdom takeover!
Receive the breakers anointing to pursue, overtake, and recover all!
God is giving us all specific instructions. He is saying that there is a responsibility that we have in this Earth because He is putting things in our hand for us to go after and overcome! It’s time to deal with the enemies that have been in your life. You have to deal with the generational curses and demonic spirits that have been plaguing your life—and even your business!
It stops NOW!
The curse breaks NOW!
Let the army of the Lord arise!
We are going in and crossing over in this season because the Word of the Lord is to pursue, overtake, and recover all. Every single thing that the enemy has stolen, snatched, or taken from you will be restored!
“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.” -Joel 2:25
There’s work for you to do in the Kingdom! You were called to be multidimensional and serve as a solution to the problem. There are some things that have been stolen from you that you have to go get, because it is the will of the Lord that you occupy. Your time to recover all is NOW!
Amen!
