When the Journey Feels Heavy

Let’s be honest…sometimes life feels like too much. We often feel as though faith is supposed to bring peace. But life has a way of weighing us down with responsibilities, challenges, and setbacks we don’t see coming. And while we know in our hearts that God is with us, it’s not always easy to feel His presence in the middle of exhaustion and overwhelm. So, what do you do when you’re at the end of your rope? How do you keep moving forward when it feels like you can’t take another step? Let today’s message encourage you for when the journey gets heavy.

Admit Your Weakness

We live in a world that glorifies strength. We’re taught that we have to be tough, independent, and capable of handling everything on our own. But in God’s kingdom, things work differently. There is beauty in admitting our weakness. In fact, it’s an act of faith. When we acknowledge that we can’t do it all, we open the door for God to step in with His strength. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says it perfectly: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” That means it’s not about how much you can carry. It’s about recognizing when you need to let go and let God. This is often the hardest part because society tells us that needing help is a weakness. But in reality, it’s in our weakest moments that God’s power shines brightest. When you admit that you don’t have it all together, you’re creating space for God’s grace to take over. And guess what? That’s where miracles happen!

Trust In Him

How often do we feel the need to have everything figured out? As believers, there’s this silent pressure to have all the answers, to know exactly what God’s plan is for us, and to be strong enough to carry it out. But here’s a secret: God never expected you to have it all figured out. But here’s the thing: God never asked us to do that. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” God never expected you to carry the weight of figuring it all out. He simply asks you to trust Him.

It’s okay to not have all the answers. It’s okay to feel lost, or even uncertain. Be encouraged that God’s plans are bigger than your understanding. The beauty is, in the moments where you feel lost or uncertain, God is still guiding you. He’s clearing the way in the background, even when you can’t see it. So, it’s okay to not have a detailed roadmap for your life. Your job is not to figure it all out, your job is to lean on Him and trust that He is in control. God’s got you covered!

Submit to Him in all of your ways!

He’ll make your path straight!

Let go of the pressure to know it all.

Find True Rest & Strength

When life feels like a constant uphill battle, sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is rest in God’s presence. This isn’t about throwing in the towel or giving up. It’s about surrendering the need to always be “doing” something and simply being still before Him. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” God offers us rest when we feel weary. He’s not asking us to carry the burden alone…He wants to carry it with us. When we’re feeling overwhelmed by the weight of life, God invites us to come to Him, lay our burdens at His feet, and experience His peace. Know that it’s okay to rest. It’s okay to pause and be still in His presence, trusting that He’s handling everything you can’t. Rest is not a sign of weakness. It is a demonstration of faith in the One who holds everything together.

Rely on God’s strength, not your own!

As humans, we naturally want to rely on our own strength to get through challenges. But, let’s be honest—there are times when our strength simply runs out. That’s when God steps in. Isaiah 40:29-31 beautifully reminds us that, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak… those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” God never intended for you to rely solely on your own strength. You don’t have to be everything for everyone. He’s the source of strength. When you lean into Him, you’ll find that He gives you what you need to keep going. So when you feel like you’re running on empty, don’t try to push through by yourself. Instead, turn to God and let His strength carry you through those tough moments.

There’s Purpose in Your Struggles

Sometimes, we may wonder why God doesn’t just remove the struggles we face. Wouldn’t it be easier if He just made the journey smooth? But the truth is, God uses those difficult moments to grow us, to strengthen our faith, and to remind us of our dependence on Him.“We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” (Romans 5:3-4)

Be encouraged that the struggles you face are not wasted!

Every struggle you face has a purpose. It’s shaping you, building your character, and deepening your trust in God. Allow God to use the difficulty to transform you. You’re not just enduring for the sake of enduring. He’s preparing you for greater things, even if it doesn’t feel like it in the moment. So, instead of asking why the struggle exists, ask God what He’s trying to teach you through it. Your struggles can become a source of strength for others. When you’ve walked through a season of weakness, pain, or uncertainty, your story can encourage someone else who’s going through the same thing. Don’t be afraid to share your story to let others see how God has moved in your life. Your story might just be the lifeline someone else needs to hold onto their faith! Yes, your testimony of how God carried you through your weakness can be the very thing that gives someone else the hope they need!

Victory in Surrender

When it comes down to it, the journey of faith isn’t about proving how strong you are. It’s about trusting in how strong God is! The real victory comes in surrendering your desire to handle it all on your own and allowing the Lord to take the lead. Embrace your own weaknesses and allow God to work in you. 2 Corinthians 12:10 says “For when I am weak, then I am strong.” When you allow God to work through your weaknesses, His strength becomes your own. Your strength is found in your surrender. When you release your burdens to God, trust Him with your weakness, and rely on His power, you will find that His strength is more than enough to carry you through.

If you’re feeling weary or overwhelmed today, be encouraged. You don’t have to carry the burden alone. God is with you, and He is more than capable of giving you the strength you need. Lean into His presence, rely on His power, and trust that in your weakness He will be glorified. The victory is already yours, not because of what you can do, but because of what He has done. Rest in His strength and let Him carry you through when the journey gets tough.

The victory has already been won!

Amen.
